About the Course


  • The course is delivered over two days and is divided into different sections. The first section of the course provides an instructor perspective on the BLS provider course. It also includes an overview of the PHECC CFR Add-on and AED trainers presentation. Educators also receive training in manikin hygiene, an essential aspect of effective CPR training.
  • The second section of the course deals with critical components of effective teaching. Participants are taught about effective instructor behaviour and how to manage challenging learners. Poor instructor behaviour is also discussed to help ensure that participants become effective trainers who can deliver high-quality training.
  • The third section of the course focuses on the practical aspects of CPR training. Participants are trained on the recovery position, and role-play is used to simulate real-life situations that require the use of CPR. Skills testing is also an essential component of the course, and participants are assessed on their ability to deliver effective CPR training.
  • The course also includes an overview of the Irish Heart Foundation administration and is delivered through DVD, lectures, and role-play. The face-to-face portion of the course is conducted over two days, and students who successfully complete the course become designated as "Instructor Candidates."
